Making £35k in the north UK
I work as a UI/UX designer for a software company in the north of the UK. I’ve got around 5 years of experience overall.
After a takeover by a large American company last year, I’ve been given the title of “Associate Ui/Ux designer” which is basically the lowest level on the corporate ladder apparently. I’m not too bothered about titles but I was expecting a pay increase at the start of the new financial year at least in line with cost of living but didn’t get a penny more.
I was wondering if anyone makes a similar amount at the moment or if I’m being low balled big time!? I appreciate I’m lucky to have a job as the market seems to still be in turmoil. Any thoughts appreciated! 🙂

Start applying for other jobs, you should get a difference of at least £10,000 in a new company with that experience. Try London/remote positions as well.
Before I was not in the UK… so doesn’t count.
£40,000 was my lowest working in an Agency in London/remote. I was up North.
£65,000 in big fintech, based in Manchester but remoteish.
£80,000 and after 1 year £85,000 working for startup in London, again remote.
£55,000 now in startup based in UK, team fully remote.
I have +10 years experience, but I don’t think that matters, I have always jumped and always got much more money.
Worth mentioning before I was working for American company and salary was 6 figures. So, if you can, just go for it. Apply for companies in Dublin.
Before that think if you like Startup or big companies and what you can get out of it.
Work on your portfolio and your presentation skills, I’m so bad at it. :S
You didn’t say how long have you been in that company tho.
If the company doesn’t give you any other benefit beside money, I would personally change. But! If company gives you something else, let’s say it’s super chill, not much work, fully remote, good team, you have a lot of fun, you are learning a lot, then I would think about the possibility of staying. If not, what do you have to lose? Just apply for jobs and check the market, it’s better when you have a job since you can take all the time to find a very good position/salary.
